The National President of a Socio-Cultural organisation, Igboezue International Association, Mazi Pius Uchenna Okoye, has warned that the high premium place on money in politics in Nigeria is an evil wind that will not blow anyone any good.
Mazi Okoye stated this in Nnewi, Anambra State yesterday during the inauguration the Nnewi branch of the association.
He said the association is out to disabuse the minds of Nigerians in general and the Igbo in particular that money is not everything pointing out that though money is good, right attitude according to him is equally very important.
The Igboezue boss described many of the personalities presently representing the Igbo in various political offices as individuals who are in offices for selfish interests.
He said that noble persons in Igboland are finding it extremely difficult if not impossible to run for elective offices because the process has been heavily monetized and in the process leave the bad individuals with deep pocket to buy their way through.
“Many people who go to represent us in different political positions are people we call 419. The good people cannot get there because they don’t have the kind of money they use to buy votes these days, so the stage is then left for dubious and unscrupulous politicians who entice our people with their ill-gotten wealth.
Mazi Okoye pointed out that it is not surprising that after politicians buy their way into various elective offices, they quickly set out with their selfish agenda to recover the money expended to buy votes not minding what the real needs of the people are.
He maintained that his association has come to tell the Igbo to learn to support their good brothers who don’t have enough money to contest during elections so that when they get into their offices, they would work for the interest of the Igbo, adding that Igboezue International Association was formed to unite the Igbo, both at home and in diaspora so that they can come together and speak with one voice.
